The Visitors’ Center features clean restrooms, free parking, and a stunning view of the Nauvoo Illinois Temple through its bay of arched picture windows. At the end of the main hallway stands a breathtaking 1896 Tiffany art-glass panel of Jesus Christ, illuminated by more than 5,000 LED lights.
The Visitors’ Center offers a self-guided experience with historical artifacts, interactive exhibits, a short film in its theater, and a children’s activity area. Missionaries are stationed at the welcome desk to answer questions and help you get the most out of your visit. They are volunteers who give service to you and your loved ones, and they are happy to share the history and significance of Nauvoo’s original temple, the current Nauvoo Illinois Temple, and the importance of houses of the Lord today

The Nauvoo Illinois Temple is considered a literal house of the Lord by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is a faithful reconstruction of the original Nauvoo Temple, built by early Church members in the 1840s and dedicated in 1846. The principal purpose of the temple is to provide ordinances and blessings to members. Ordinances include endowment, marriage, and baptism.
Only members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with an active temple recommend are allowed to enter the inside of the Nauvoo Illinois Temple.
